SMASHERS from the Banilad Shuttlers showed off their excellent badminton skills, bagging titles in the 2nd Gov. Roberto Uy Badminton Cup held last June 4 to 6, at the ZN Convention and Sports Center in Dipolog City.
Banilad Shuttlers, the lone team from Cebu City, won two gold medals and a bronze in the tournament that had age-group, open, and doubles categories.
Winning the gold in the 12-and-under girls’ doubles competition was Banilad Shuttlers’ Zinah Marichelle Bejasa and Karyll Rio, who defeated their foes from Cagayan de Oro City, 21-12, 21-11.
The Cebu team also won the 15-and-under boys’ doubles title via James Ryan Villarante and Carl Bernard Bejasa, who also defeated their opponents from Cagayan de Oro City, 21-12, 21-10.
Banilad Shuttlers also competed in the 17-and-under boys’ doubles but was edged out by foes from Cadiz, Negros Occidental in the semis, 21-15, 19-21, 23-21.
