FOURTH-RANKED Batch 1996-Blakeley’s Motorcare got rid of the upset-conscious ninth-seed Batch 1998-Kaking via a resounding 96-57 win in their do-or-die showdown last Saturday in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 14th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC Gym.
Batch 1996 advanced to the second phase of the quarterfinals behind a balanced attack as six of its scorers came up with double-digit output.
Rex Allinson fired a team-high 20 points, Gerald Go fired 17, Dreyfuss netted 14, Franklin Ong coughed up 12 and Emmanuel Baron scattered 10 as the twice-to-beat Batch 1996 bounced back from a close 68-69 loss to the same Batch 1998 squad in their initial encounter last week.
Elvis Evangelista scored 17 points, Santos Chua added 12 and Rex Millan pitched in 11 for the eliminated Batch 1998.
In the do-or-die second phase of the quarterfinal round, Batch 1980s/1990s/2011-Koi Herbal will be up against
Batch 1995-La Nueva, while Batch 1996 will square off with Batch 2007-Chef Chang.
