DOH asks officials to monitor water quality

By: Melissa Q. Cabahug June 18,2015 - 10:38 AM

THE regional Department of Health (DOH-7) asked each local government unit (LGUs) in Central Visayas to convene a water quality monitoring committee to ensure the safety and quality of water for every household.

Saludar said Presidential Decree 856 or the Sanitation Code of the Philippines stated that cities and towns are required to have a water quality monitoring committee.

“Without that, any water provider can claim that their water is of good quality,” Engr. Henry Saludar, regional sanitary engineer, said.

The committee consists of a sanitary engineer, officials from the DOH and local health office.

The Department of Education (DepEd) issued an order requiring hand washing facilities in all schools.

Dr.  Berna Ysulan, acting health and nutrition unit chief, said nearly 3,000 elementary and secondary schools in Central Visayas have hand washing facilities.
