ALL  creative research entries of the 3rd Regional Invention Contest and Exhibit (RICE) will be screened for intellectual property (IP) protection, free of charge.

This is an incentive to encourage inventors joining the contest to coordinate with and trust TAPI agents to protect their ideas and help them create and improve their inventions, said Director Edgar Garcia, Department of Science and Technology-Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) during yesterday’s RICE opening.

The exhibit will run until Saturday where the winning invention will be announced.

Winners of the contest will receive cash prizes ranging from P10,000  to P60,000.

More than 10 entries from different industries have joined this year’s contest.

The DOST has also partnered with the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry for this year’s RICE.

Teresa Chan, CCCI President, said that innovation is the best response to changing opportunities and may help in the country’s desire to attain inclusive growth.

“This is the opportunity of a lifetime,” she said. “One we cannot squander, especially in science, innovation and technology, she said.

“The challenge for all of us is to not only be on our toes, not only embrace change, but be in the forefront of positive change,” she said.
