Hotel exec says discussions ongoing with SM
The Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group has reiterated plans to grow its partnership with the SM Group and operate more hotels in the Philippines.
Sandy Russell, Carlson vice president for commercial operations, said Carlson and SM executives met recently to discuss other possible projects. “We have what we think is a very good relationship with SM. We’re very proud of that relationship,” Russell said.
Carlson, in partnership with the SM Group, currently operates the five-star Radisson Blu Hotel in Cebu and mid-scale Park Inn by Radisson in Davao.
It will also operate the Park Inn by Radisson in Clark, which is targeted to open next year. Five additional locations for Park Inn in the Philippines have been identified.
Russell said they consider the Philippines a growth area in the Asia-Pacific region, along with China and Indonesia. She said they were scouting for opportunities to expand operations in the country.
“The Philippines is one of the fastest growing economies in the Asia-Pacific region.
Logically, this is one of the places we will be making investments in,” Russell said.
Carlson is eyeing an additional 91 hotels in the Asia-Pacific in the next five years.
Focus will be on the growth areas, including the Philippines, China and Indonesia.
The group currently has 109 hotels in the Asia-Pacific region. Russell said they hope to have a total of 200 hotels by 2020.
In the Asia-Pacific region, Carlson has its largest footprint in Indonesia, with 69 establishments. But Russell said the group is always open to other partnerships.
She said they were eyeing to open Radisson Red, a mid-scale establishment targeting the millenials.
The design of the hotel is said to be modern and technology-based.
The very first Radisson Red has been signed on in China, while three or four others are in the pipeline, she added.
The Carlson group also has several other establishments in mind, including a collection of six-star hotels.
