An 18-year-old Mahogany tree was uprooted yesterday  following heavy rains in, Argao town, south Cebu.

The tree blocked the highway in barangay Bulasa, tying up vehicular traffic for about an hour, said Vip Semilla, Argao’s local disaster officer.

A seven-man team was sent to remove the fallen tree.

Semilla said they had planned to cut old trees along he highway as these pose danger to motorists but that it would take time to secure a permit from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DENR) 7.

More than 10 trees in Argao were uprooted last year due to heavy rains and strong winds brought by typhoon Seniang.
