Bird vendors arrested

Two men were arrested for selling birds without permits in Cebu City.

Juanito Sialongo was caught  selling two crested myna birds, one tarci hornbill and a blue-crowned racquet-tail in Urgello Street. Mark Anthony Bejic was caught with two coleto birds, one crested myna, a Philippine hawk owl and a blue-crowned racquet-tail near the Redemptorist Church.

The birds were taken to the Wildlife Rescue Center in barangay Kalunasan. The two vendors are  in the custody of Police Station 2.

The Philippine hawk owl and tarci hornbill are classified as endangered species.DENR spokesman Eddie Llamedo said the birds had been smuggled from Palawan and MIndoro.  The seizures were done by DENR personnel on July 1. / CTU Intern Marc Eric Cosep
