Man runs amuck, stabs parents, kills brother

A 22-year-old man was arrested after he killed his brother and injured his parents when he ran amuck and stabbed them inside their home in Nivel Hills, barangay Lahug, Cebu City yesterday morning.

Cedric Arnejo, whom his parents said  suffers from mental ailment, was arrested after the attack and detained at the Cebu City Police Office detention cell.

Cedric stabbed his brother, Jonathan, 33, in the neck, killing him after he attacked his parents — Manolito, 67, and Lucena, 62, in the stomach.

According to the police investigation, the Arnejo family were having a videoke session in their home yesterday when Cedric, who came out of the toilet, suddenly grabbed a kitchen knife and attacked his parents in the living room.

SPO4 Rey Cuyos, homicide investigator, said the father, Manolito, who works as a security guard, was wounded in the right side of the stomach while the mother was stabbed in the left.

Jonathan was in his room when the attack happened.

“He (Jonathan) was awakened from his sleep inside his room when he heard the commotion at the sala. When he opened the door  to find out what was going on, he was greeted by his brother brandishing the knife. His brother then stabbed Jonathan in the neck, fatally wounding him,” Cuyos said.

The victims were rushed to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) but Jonathan did not make it alive.

“According to his parents, he (Cedric)  has already a record at the VSMMC psychiatric ward for confinement and was released last month,” Cuyos said.

Cuyos said Cedric could be facing murder and multiple frustrated homicide charges, but the parents said they would not file a case against their son.
