Gaisano Grand teams up with Comelec for “No Bio, No Boto” campaign.
Voters have the chance to register their biometrics data in 27 malls of the Gaisano Grand Group in the Visayas and Mindanao.
A Memorandum of Agreement for the partnership was signed over the weekend by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and one of the biggest mall chains in the south.
Several malls in Metro Manila signed up earlier. The pact with Gaisano Grand is the first partnership of the poll body in the Vismin area for registration and validation.
Satellite registration booths are being provided for the convenience and access of individuals who have not yet registered for the 2016 elections.
“We want the convenience of malls in the registration, not just to be felt by people in the cities but also in the outskirts. So we are very happy with this partnership,” said Comelec chairman Juan Andres Bautista.
“By bringing the biometrics registration inside our malls, we can help reach out to more people in the remote areas,” said Geraldine Gaisano-Anggala, president of the Gaisano Grand Group of Companies.
“It is an honor to be of service to our country, and we join the Philippines in striving and moving forward,” she added.
A voter has to have his picture, fingerprint and signature in the file of the Comelec. Those who fail to submit their biometrics data will be deactivated from the list of qualified voters and will not be eligible to vote in the 2016 elections.
In Cebu, the 10 Gaisano Grand malls are in Tabunok (Talisay), Mandaue Centro, Basak-Mactan, Talamban (Cebu City), Toledo City, Carcar City, and municipalities of Dumanjug, Moalboal, Minglanilla and Cordova.
