Expect superheroes of the famed DC Comics to invade Cebu soon.
This after Global Procurement Inc. (GPI) brings to Cebu the Justice League Run on Sept. 26 starting at the SM City Cebu car park at the North Reclamation Area in Cebu City.
In this running event, participants will wear authentic DC Universe singlets with designs of their favorite DC Comics superheroes such as Superman, Batman, Wonderwoman, Green Lantern and The Flash. DC Universe also features teams such as the Justice League, the Justice Society and the Teen Titans.
Participants will have three distances to choose from: 3-kilometer, 5k and 10k.
Organizers from GPI are excited to hold the event in Cebu for the first time, especially after pulling off a successful event in Manila last April 18, wherein they gathered 10,000 runners.
“When Warner Bros Inc. (parent company) suggested they wanted to hold a running in Cebu, we could not agree more,” said Marites Fragante, marketing director of GPI during yesterday’s launching at the Shakey’s SM City Cebu branch. “[Warner Bros.’] headquarters in Asia is based in Hong Kong and they really love Cebu. That’s why they also are very excited to hold this running event here in Cebu and they will be here on the day of the run.”
Other countries like Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia also have their own version of the comic book/super hero-themed running event.
“Aside from promoting the DC universe here in Cebu, we want to let the runners enjoy this running event because we want to let them know they are special just like their idolized super heroes,” said technical director Neville Manaois.
Also present during the launching were SM City Cebu’s Anne Flores and Cebuano race director Joel Juarez of Coco Running.
“It will be surely a colorful sight to see Cebuano runners dressed in their favorite super heroes on that day. We at SM will surely support this running event.”
Registration will kick off soon. It can be done online through Zalora.com.ph or at Chris Sports outlets in Cebu. Registration fee is pegged at P600 for the 3k, P700 for the 5k and P800 for the 10k, inclusive of the authentic DC Universe singlet, a string bag full of goodies and a specially designed finishers medal.
Although it is a non-competitive event, organizers will still award the top three finishers in each distance.
Co-presenter for the event is 7-Eleven, which is celebrating the opening of its 1,500th store in the country.
