A 29-year-old woman was killed after fire razed a nipa hut in barangay Lumboc, Malabuyoc town, southern Cebu.

Police said the victim Jocelyn Denuyo lived alone in the hut in sitio Candalao.

He was reportedly mentally unstable and could no longer walk properly which may have prevented her from escaping the burning house.

Police said the woman may have played with matches that caused the fire, which broke out around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

SPO3 Mario Paler said the woman’s father would usually bring matches when he visits the house to cook food for her daughter.

The father’s house was a few meters from the victim’s hut.

The fire spread quickly since the hut was made of light materials.
