Dumaguete City’s veteran runner Mereeis Ramirez and Bukidnon’s Robert Daang emerged the fastest runners in the 25-kilometer race of yesterday’s University Run 10 of the Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) at the CDU campus at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.
Ramirez, who has been quiet in local races lately, finally made some noise as she topped the women’s side by clocking two hours, 11 minutes and 28 seconds.
Daang, on the other hand, finished in one hour, 40 minutes and nine seconds to bag the men’s title.
Former amateur boxer Ian Refuela settled for second place in the men’s race with a time of 1:40.50 followed by Rey Rolly Omnos, who clocked 1:44.34.
Ultramarathoner Sandra Sollano trailed Ramirez and finished second place with a time of 2:13.53 while Ellen Mira placed third, clocking 2:20.58.
In the 13-kilometer race, Davao City’s Elmer Bartolo and Lapu-Lapu City’s Cherry Andrin emerged champions.
Bartolo clocked 46:44 to win the men’s title while Andrin finished in 1:07.49 for the women’s crown.
Bartolo’s closest pursuer was Florindo Lapiz, who clocked 49:03 to finish in second place. Marty Violante landed at third with a time of 53:25.
Sara Lee Cuizon placed second to Andrin with a time of 1:08.36 while Anita Balga settled for third, finishing in 1:11.20.
Michael Claudio placed first in the 25k alumni category by finishing in 2:07.23. The 13k alumni was won by Aileen Taborada (women’s) and Rolen Tarife (men’s).
Janina Kirsten Yu (32:01) and Andre Sacred (25:50) topped the 6k race while Rhandonn Aga (10:58) and Kali Carcel (17:58) dominated the 3k category.
Around 3,100 runners joined the 10th edition of the University Run which is held in line with CDU’s annual University Week. The race was organized by the Run For Sight Foundation Inc. and Coco Running.
