Trillanes visits Cebu to firm up VP bid

By: Michelle Joy L. Padayhag August 30,2015 - 01:12 AM

SEN. Antonio Trillanes IV visited Cebu yesterday to consult with local Magdalo leaders and meet with leaders of the business community for support on his vice presidential bid.

“The public needs to know what we in the Magdalo group are doing in the Senate. We were able to win seats in Congress and in the Senate on a shoestring budget of P5 million to P6 million and we will use the same strategy,” Trillanes said.

The Magdalo group has 600 chapter leaders in Cebu who are also endorsing Sen. Grace Poe’s candidacy in the presidential race.

“I believe so that we (Poe and Trillanes) can offer something on the table with our core competence and at the same time (our support) will reinforce and complement what Sen. Poe can offer (to the people),” Trillanes said.

He also believed that Vice President Jejomar Binay’s popularity will decline once the people learn more about the corruption and the plunder charges to be filed against him and his daughter Makati City Rep. Abigail Binay next week.

Sen. Trillanes also said he will look into reports about the alleged budget cut for the police personnel assigned to secure the delegates of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings in Cebu.
