Savio, Srugi make Don Bosco hoop finals

Cebu Daily News September 28,2015 - 10:14 PM

ST. DOMINIC Savio and Bro. Simon Srugi beat separate foes to advance to the finals of the Don Bosco@200 Alumni Basketball Tournament.
Savio defeated Team Don Aloïs Mertens, 77-66,  while Srugi prevailed over Team St. Louis John Orione, 92-87, last Saturday at the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) arena.
John Velasco led Savio to the win after exploding with 32 points while James Otida added 18.
Mertens actually led early on but Velasco ignited a run and Savio stepped up on defense to turn the game around.
Savio zeroed in its defense on Celso Colegado, who tried to tow Mertens to victory.
Colegado managed to finish with a game-high 42 points but it wasn’t enough to carry Mertens to victory.
Dennis Christopher Morales, meanwhile, led Srugi with 24 points.
Mertens and Orione played for third place and Savio and Srugi fought for the top prize last Sunday. Results weren’t available as of press time.
