A MAN is facing trial for allegedly hitting his 12-year-old daughter with a wooden slab used in playing sungka.
The Cebu City Prosecutors’ Office found basis to indict the girl’s father on charges of violating Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.
Bail was recommended at P80,000.
Cebu Daily News is withholding the name of the accused to protect the identity of the child.
In her affidavit, the girl said her father was angered at her refusal to run an errand for him last Sept. 21.
She said she was busy tending to her younger sibling because their mother was hospitalized.
“He smacked my nape, threw a wooden sungka panel at me, and then hit my right thigh,” the girl said.
She said her father also threw a slipper at her.
“I want to put my father in jail,” the girl said.
The father was arrested immediately after a relative sought the assistance of barangay tanods.
He was eventually turned over to the custody of the police.
When presented before Assistant City Prosecutor Russell Busico, the father waived his right to a preliminary investigation.
The case was then elevataed to the trial court.
