The University of San Carlos (USC) Lady Warriors inched closer to the finals after beating the resilient University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Lady Jaguars, 25-17, 23-25, 20-25, 25-14, 15-10, in the semifinal round of the Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) women’s volleyball tournament yesterday at the Recoletos Coliseum.
The visiting Lady Warriors now have a 1-0 (win-loss) record in the single round-robin semis while the Lady Jaguars have a 0-1 mark. The top two teams after the semis will make it to the championship round.
USC assistant coach Kenneth Densing said the win was the product of teamwork between players and coaches.
“We played as a team. We played as one,” Densing said.
Also in the women’s division, the Southwestern University (SWU) Lady Cobras (1-0) started their semifinals campaign on a strong note, crushing the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) Lady Panthers (0-1) in straight sets, 25-12, 27-25, 28-26.
