THE ADAMSON Soaring Falcons continued to be a huge thorn on the side of the University of the Philippines (UP) as they prevailed over the now-struggling Maroons, 73-68, for their first win of the season in the 78th UAAP men’s basketball tournament yesterday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
After losing their first six games of the tournament, the Falcons once again found respite in the Maroons, the only team they managed to beat last year for their lone win.
Jerome Garcia broke out for 26 huge points, 19 of which came in the first half as Adamson established the tempo, already leading by 19, 47-28.
In the marquee match-up between blood rivals Ateneo and La Salle, the Green Archers came away with an 80-76 come-from-behind victory, thanks to a cold-blooded three-pointer from Joshua Torralba that completed their comeback from a 15-point deficit.
Torralba scored the trey from the left flank with 33.9 seconds remaining that put the boys in green ahead for good, 77-76.
