Sorongan returns with a bang, tops Forwarders Run
After missing several races, Sultan Kudarat’s Ruffa Sorongan returned with a bang, as she dominated the 12-kilometer run of the Forwarders Run yesterday at the Sumilon Road of the Cebu Business Park.
Sorongan, who was on a streak early this year after winning 11 straight races, was absent from the local running scene for a couple of months for undisclosed reasons.
But the hiatus didn’t affect her performance as she crossed the finish line in 50 minutes and 34 seconds to rule the 12k women’s race.
Lovely Andrin finished second with a time of 56:11 while Sara Lee Cuizon placed third, clocking 59:35.
Kenyan Abraham Kilimo, meanwhile, logged his second win in as many days after dominating the men’s 12k race with a time of 40:46.
Kilimo led a Kenyan charge in the Saint Paul Learning Center (SPLC) Run on Saturday, topping the 10k run.
Paul James Zafico settled for second place with a time of 42:05 while Riez Enriquez finished third, clocking 42:55.
In the 6k race, Prince Joey Lee and Cherry Andrin emerged victorious. Lee timed 19:29 for the men’s title while Andrin clocked 26:32 to bag the women’s crown.
Kenyan Joseph Mururi finished in 19:30 to wind up second in the men’s race while Reymark Bautista placed third with a time of 21:45.
Andrin was followed by Michelle Beboso (26:54) and Desiree Salas (32:24).
Bong Medrozo (30:31) and Chona Ruby (36:37) topped the 6k Forwarders category.
Michael Largo and Lizane Abella claimed the top spots of the 3k open category. Largo finished in 07:22 while Abella clocked 09:32.
Chad Casinillo (08:57) and Hazel Ferolino (16:36) were the winners in the 3k Forwarders category.
The running event was for the benefit of 26-year-old Mary Anne Tigbao, an employee of the Crest Forwarders Inc. who is scheduled to undergo surgery because of an accident. The surgery costs around P600,000. The race was organized by Crest Forwarders Inc.
