Taxi driver nabbed after demanding cash for passenger’s bag
A 44-YEAR-OLD taxi driver was arrested after he demanded money for the return of the valuables and documents left by his passenger inside his taxicab last Friday afternoon.
Carlos Capuyan, driver of E-Taxi with plate number GWL-292, was handcuffed and arrested after passenger Maria Rhodessa Aballe, 31, paid him P2,000 in exchange for the sling bag she left in the taxicab.
Aballe said the sling bag contained the passport of her boyfriend, credit card, driver’s license and car keys.
Aballe sought police assistance when Capuyan refused to return the sling bag unless she pays P2,000.
Aballe told police that she realized too late that she had left her sling bag in the cab that brought her to her hotel in uptown Cebu City. Fortunately for her, the hotel’s security guard was able to jot down the details of the taxicab.
She managed to contact Capuyan and sought police help after the taxi driver gave his condition for the return of the bag.
Aballe was able to convince Capuyan to go back to the hotel to return of the bag. Police swooped in and arrested Capuyan when the money was paid.
Capuyan was detained at the Fuente police station pending the filing of estafa and coercion charges.
