BARRING any major collapse, Cebu’s road running queen Mary Joy Tabal is cinch to win another crown when she competes in 21-kilometer race of the General Santos leg of the 39th National Milo Marathon.
Tabal skipped the Cebu leg last Oct. 11 and still decided to compete in General Santos although she earned a slot for the Dec. 6 National Finals in Angeles City for being the defending champion.
Tabal is actually the reigning back-to-back champion in the National Finals.
Tabal told Cebu Daily News that she is hoping that she will be 100 percent healthy and in peak form for the national finals.
“As of now, I’m not in my best form yet. I’m still doubling my effort in the training. There still a lot of adjustments to make but I’m happy that am healthy,” she said.
Tabal stressed that what she and her trainer John Philip Dueñas is trying to avoid is to overtrain.
“I always make sure that I have time to recover,” Tabal said.
Dueñas will also be running but will just opt to pace Tabal.
