National Bike Day to be held Nov. 22
THE NATIONAL Bicycle Organization (NBO) together with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) will hold the second annual National Bicycle Day (NBD) on Nov. 22 in different parts of the country.
Among the cities that will observe National Bicycle Day are Iloilo, Davao and the province of Ilocos Sur.
NBD is a yearly event held every fourth Sunday of November. With a theme of “One Nation, One Ordinance, One Step Towards A Bicycle-Friendly Philippines,” the event aims to promote a bicycle-friendly society by encouraging every municipality to implement the bicycle parking ordinance.
NBO Director Benedict Camara is expecting more participants in this year’s competition and is open to have a National Bicycle Day next year here in Cebu.
“Actually last year, sa Cebu sana yun. Pero hindi pinansin ng LGU yung invitation namin,” Camara said.
During the first annual NBD, 41 cities/municipalities took part in the event and were able to gather around 35,000 cycling enthusiasts.
This event also aspires to promote the availability of bicycle parking areas in all establishments nationwide. It is supported by the Department of Transportation and Communications, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Education, Department of Health, Department of Energy, Department of Public Works and Highways, Highway Patrol Group and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.
