THE Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) expects  the population of the country to  reach more than 102 million this year or  a growth of about 10 million individuals from the 2010 census.

The census for 2015 population in Central Visayas is almost done according to Noel Rafols, information officer of PSA, except for a few callbacks needed for Siquijor, Bohol and Cebu City.

“Both data collection in Siquijor and Negros Oriental went well and was finished by the first week of October. After the conduct of callbacks in other areas, that will be it,” said Rafols.

The PSA regional office also commemorated the second World Statistics Day yesterday with the theme “Better Data, Better Lives.”

Roxan Mujeres, statistician officer of PSA, said that the callbacks will help in promoting the quality and standard of statistics they would generate.

Rafols, explained that after the field work which involves collecting data in areas of Central Visayas, the manual processing will start.

The sets of questionnaires will be manually edited, encoded and processed.

Machine processing and tabulation will follow which will make it a raw data.

This will be submitted to the head office in Manila by the end of the year.

He added that the census will now be made every five years to monitor the growth of population nationwide.

Rafols noted that there is a rapid annual growth rate in Central Visayas, especially since the region has three highly urbanized cities of Mandaue, Lapu-lapu and Cebu.Lapu-Lapu City recorded with the highest growth rate of 4.91 percent from 2000 to 2010.

As of May 2010, Central Visayas has 6.8 million individuals.
