A TWO-STORY building  is near completion in the Barili District Hospital compound that will improve  medical services for  town residents.

The project is more than 86 percent complete and will be operational by the second quarter of 2016, Capitol engineers said.

Dr. Jose de Leon Jr., the hospital’s operations chief, said the project  will fulfill the residents’ long held desire for better health  services in Barili, a southwest town in Cebu’s 3rd district.

The new 60-bed  building will house patients’ wards, private and semi-private rooms, surgery and obstetrics, an out-patient department, and additional offices for hospital staff, according to a report from the Provincial Information Office.

The P13-million project is funded by the Department of Health (DOH) and stands next to an  old two-story building which has a 30-bed capacity.

Renovation on the old building will begin after the new one opens for service next year.

The Capitol set aside one new ambulance for the hospital to be issued at the end of the year.

The hospital recently opened its new Comprehensive Emergency and Newborn Care (CEmONC) building which is fully functional except for the operating room.

The P4.9 million project funded  by the DOH is awaiting the upgrading of its electrical system.
