A family vacation to Japan didn’t go as planned after a  father was  caught with a pack of suspected shabu at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

Margarito Dela Cruz of  Leyte province, was arrested when a pack of white powder was found in his pocket  during a routine airport inspection.

Dela Cruz, his wife and their two children arrived at the airport last Tuesday morning to catch their 10 a.m. flight for Narita, Japan.

During the inspection, Dela Cruz was asked to remove the things in his pockets and place them on a tray.

Edward Pascua, security screening officer of the Office of the Transportation Office, said he saw a plastic pack with crystalline substance fall from the man’s pocket.

Pascua then called the police.

Pascua said Dela Cruz admitted that he used illegal drugs but  was unaware that he had brought a pack of shabu in his pocket.

Pascua said the wife was upset by the discovery and angrily confronted her husband.

The wife and their two children decided to go on with the trip.

Dela Cruz was detained at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Headquarters.

He was charged yesterday with  violation of Republic Act A 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
