Tinago barangay captain Joel Garganera called the preventive suspension order an "anti-Cebu" decision.

Tinago barangay captain Joel Garganera called the preventive suspension order an “anti-Cebu” decision.

Several Cebu City barangay chairpersons showed their support to Mayor Michael Rama who was meted a 60-day preventive suspension.

In a press conference at the mayor’s office Thursday afternoon, the barangay officials were led by Association of Barangay Councils (ABC)-Cebu City Chapter President Philip Zafra and Vice President Joel Garganera.

“It’s December. There are a lot of events. To top it all, there are preparations for Sinulog and IEC where the mayor is at the helm in preparations. Picking him out here, haw-an sa amo (there’s a void) This is an anti-Cebu decision from the national government. Wa mi mahimuot sa ilang gibuhat (We are not happy with what they did). This is anti-Cebu, this is anti-us,” said Garganera, who is also the barangay chairman of Tinago.

Zafra said the ABC will draft a manifesto supporting Rama. But he said the ABC is not encouraging any protest or rally against the order.

More than 60 out of the 80 barangay chairpersons of Cebu City went to the Rama compound earlier this afternoon to meet with the mayor.

They later on went to City Hall for a press conference, although Rama didn’t come with them.
