SLOTS to the All Women’s Ultra Marathon (AWUM) ran out 30 minutes after online registration opened yesterday.
The 50-kilometer race is slated March 12 and is considered the biggest and most grueling foot race exclusive for women in Cebu.
According to Tony Galon, the president of the Cebu Ultrarunners Club (CUC), there are still a lot of female runners on the waiting list, which means last year’s number of 255 runners could very well be eclipsed this year.
As of yesterday, Galon said that they have yet to give the final number of participants for this year because there were still runners who were registering at press time.
Sandra Soliano emerged as the fastest runner in last year’s edition, finishing in five hours, one minute and one second.
Last year’s edition was marred with controversy when two female runners were caught cheating after they were seen by marshals riding a motorcycle to beat the 10-hour cut-off time. CUC eventually disqualified the unnamed runners.
