Suspended Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama declared the Sinulog festivities open hours after a Mass officiated by Msgr. Roberto Alesna at the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño.

The mayor declared the annual event open in his capacity as chairman of the Sinulog Foundation. Acting Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella was also present during the event.

After the opening Mass, a kick-off parade was held from Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño to Cebu City Sports Center.

Joining the parade are dancers from 16 schools in Cebu City and reigning Sinulog Festival Queen 2015 Julienne Hazel Penserga. Miss Cebu 2016 finalists also join the kick-off parade on board cars.

As off press time, heavy traffic was experienced along  Osmeña Boulevard due to the kick-off parade.
