Ayala Center celebrates IEC Week with cultural performances

The Queen City of the South has gone all out in preparation for the 51st International Eucharistic Congress (IEC).

From Jan. 24 to 31, thousands of Catholic clergy and lay ministers from different parts of the world will convene in Cebu to attend the Congress.

Ayala Center Cebu is one with the community in celebrating the IEC and will be a venue of devotion through Cebuano artistry.

From Jan. 20 to 30, Ayala Center Cebu has lined up daily performances featuring different Cebuano schools and organizations at The Terraces.

Students from different universities in Cebu will present cultural performances at the Terraces daily at 7 p.m. — “Sacraments of Life” by University of Cebu on Jan. 20; “Southern Faith and Devotion” by University of Southern Philippines Foundation on Jan. 21; “Memoirs of Faith” by the University of the Visayas on Jan. 22; “The Mystical Body” on Jan. 25 by the University of San Jose-Recoletes; “Parables Today” on Jan. 26 by the University of San Carlos; and the “Maytime Festival” on Jan. 27 by the Cebu Normal University.

The IEC Grand Chorale Festival featuring a dozen Cebuano choirs will be held on Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. On Jan. 28 at the same time, bishops will gather for a night of celebration dubbed “Fabric of Faith.”

Catch performances from featured Cebuano artists in “Nagkalain-laing dagway sa pagpangaliyupo (Different images of supplication) on Jan. 24 at 7 p.m.

On Jan. 29, watch the dance performance “Fiesta Folk Dances” by public school teachers from the south district of Cebu and “Hudyaka! Cebuano Dance Festival” by Local Government Unit festival dancers on Jan. 30.

The IEC, which happens once every four years, is an international gathering of religious leaders and clergy aimed at promoting awareness on the central role of the Eucharist in the life and mission of the Catholic Church.
