VICTIMS of the recent fire that left more than 700 persons homeless in barangay Lahug expressed their gratitude for the free water provided by the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD).

A day after the fire, the water district installed three faucets which the victims can use for free for one month.

Teresita Aray, 40, said she was thankful that the water district cared for them.

“Pasalamat kaayo mi sa MCWD nga wa mi pasagdi.  Naghuna-huna sad intawn sila namo,” Aray said.

Aray and her only daughter and husband have lived in sitio Avocado, barangay Lahug for more than 15 years. She used to live just two houses away from where the fire started. She lost her house and small store in the blaze. In the meantime, they are staying in a makeshift shanty.

Another sitio Avocado resident Amie Abaño also thanked MCWD for the free water.

“Dako gyud kaayo og tabang ang tubig. Bahala na og way suga basta naay tubig,” she said.

Abaño, 55, said she was preparing dinner when the fire broke out.

Together with  her three children and six-month old granddaughter they  left everything behind in the rush to escape the fire.

Abaño  has lived in the area since 1972.
