THE UNIVERSITY of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars grabbed their first win after slipping past the J. Espina-Cebu Institute of Technology Wildcats, 86-84, in the 1st Raul Cabanero Inter-Collegiate Basketball League on Saturday night at the Bulacao Sports Complex in Talisay City.

Wily guard Jaybee Mantilla and athletic forward RJ Dinolan carried the fight for USJ-R as they tallied 20 points apiece to help even up their win-loss record at 1-1 after opening their campaign in this competition with a loss to the University of the Visayas Green Lancers. Kevin Villafranca also scored 11 for the Jaguars.

For the second straight game, undersized power forward Joshua dela Cerna ran amok and scored 26 points while Wilkins Sanchez and Mark Kong added 16 and 11, respectively.

The Wildcats though, missed the contributions of the team’s other top gun, Allan Dimco, who managed just seven. The Wildcats are now winless in two outings.
In the Inter-Sitio category, Villaberna outclassed Friendly Homes, 75-63.

The games in this tournament are being run by the efforts of Councilors Banjo Abastillas, Darwin Cabanero and Agnes Lastimosa. The league is being supported by the Bulacao Barangay Council.
