THE Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) is taking part in the historic International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) in Cebu from January 24 to 31.

Several drinking water stations will be installed and water trucks will be deployed in different parts of Mandaue City and Cebu City to provide free potable water to the participants of the international event.

On January 28 and 29, a water truck will be deployed in Mandani Bay in Mandaue City for an overnight Youth Day vigil, a sidelight of the 51st IEC.

Six water stations will be installed in Cebu City for the Mass and procession on January 29.

A Mass will be held at the Cebu Provincial Capitol on this day which will be followed by a procession to the Plaza Independencia.

On January 30, one station will be installed on R. Landon St. and another one on P. del Rosario St. near Cebu City Central School for the Holy Eucharist and Sinulog presentation which will be held in the Cebu City Sports Center.

On January 31, during the Statio Orbis at the SRP grounds near SM Seaside City, water stations will be installed for the participants of the Mass which is expected to draw 1 million people.

Last January 24, during the opening Mass held at the Plaza Independecia, two water stations were installed inside Fort San Pedro and at  Osmeña Blvd. corner Lapu-Lapu St. in Cebu City.

The 51st IEC is historic as this is the first time for Cebu to host the big event of the Catholic Church.

The last time the country hosted this international event was 79 years ago in Manila.
