SACRED Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) will make up the core of the Mandaue City team for the Central Visayas Regional Athletics Association (CVIRAA) meet slated on Feb. 7 to 13 in the City of Naga.
Mandaue City, which will send around 130 athletes to the annual multi-sporting meet, finished second overall in last year’s edition held in Balamban town, southwest Cebu. It garnered a total of 57 gold medals, 36 silver medals and 39 bronze medals.
Ateneo de Cebu’s swimmers played a key role in their success last year as they contributed 10 gold medals while its tracksters added eight more gilts.
According to Ateneo de Cebu athletic director Rico Navarro, they will be banking on basketball, girls secondary athletics, volleyball, football, futsal and archery for this year.
The girls athletics bets have already proven their worth when they emerged as the top squad in the Visayas Regional Finals of the Milo Little Olympics in Iloilo City last year. Its boys secondary basketball squad also dominated the regional finals and claimed the silver medal in the Milo Little Olympics National Finals in Laguna last year.
Winners in this meet will make up the Central Visayas team that will compete in the Palarong Pambansa on April 9 to 16 in Albay.
