CEBUANO cyclist Jhorvien Carcueva flaunted his racing prowess as he topped the 1st Philippine Collegiate Cycling Championships last Sunday in Mabitac, Rizal.
The 20-year-old Carcueva breasted the finish line in 2 hours, two minutes and 54 seconds to win the race and earn a spot in the World Cycling University Championships.
National team players Ronald Oranza (2:03:00) and Rustom Lim (2:04:11), checked in second and third, respectively.
Carcueva of Cebu Kopiko Team had a slow start but immediately picked up his tempo in the last five kilometers of the race, edging Oranza by just six seconds.
In the distaff side, Southeast Asian Games ITT Champion Marella Salamat (2:07:15) lived up to her lofty billing by besting fellow National team member Avegail Rombaon (2:07:18) to claim the title in the women’s division.
Salamat will also represent the country in the World Championships in Tagaytay this March.
