Five persons, including a businessman and his wife in Liloan town northern Cebu, were among those killed in four separate shooting incidents last Sunday.

The couple, Celedonio Angelo and his wife Josephine, were heading home to Barangay Catarman from their store in Barangay Tayud aboard their multicab at past 7 p.m. when they were ambushed by two men. They were killed 400 meters near their home.

Senior Insp. Ramil Morpos, Liloan Police chief, said witnesses saw two men wearing motorcycle helmets standing in the street corner.

When the couple passed by aboard their vehicle, the shooters then opened fire while one of the attackers took the bag, believed to contain an undetermined amount of money, inside the vehicle. The shooters fled on a motorcycle.

Several empty shells were found at the crime scene.

Josephine died after she was hit in the head and body while her husband Celedonio was hit in the body.

Police were looking into robbery and a personal grudge over a land dispute as possible motives in the killing.

On the same day, in Barangay Pilipog, Cordova town, a construction worker was shot dead by an unknown assailant.

Police said Jose Nino Yanco, 22, was shot at the back of the head as he was walking on his way to the construction site at around 10 p.m.

Police is still investigating the killing.

In Minglanilla town, a drunk welder, who tried to stab anybody he sees on the road, was shot dead by a fellow welder who he earlier stabbed in the chest.

Andres Cabusas, 42, of Minglanilla died after he was shot twice with a .357 revolver by his neighbor Alexander Lopez, 54 at past 6 p.m.

Lopez told police the drunk Cabusas earlier stabbed and wounded him in the chest. He was able to run home, get his gun despite his wound, returned to where Cabusas was, and shot him.

Lopez then surrendered to police.

In Talisay City, Noel Ponce of Barangay Lawaan 3 was shot dead by an unidentified shooter.

Witnesses told police that Ponce was arguing along the side of the road with a man who pulled out a gun and shot the victim.

Police are still investigating the incident.
