FORMER University of San Jose-Recoletos ace Mar Villahermosa waxed hot from the field to lead the Café France Bakers past Wangs Basketball, 106-73, in the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Villahermosa, a former three-point champion in the Cesafi back during his days with the Jaguars, had 15 points to lead the Bakers to the lopsided win, their fifth in as many games. More importantly, it gave Café France a guaranteed twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.

Former Far Eastern University cager Carl Bryan Cruz added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Bakers as five others scored in double-figures for the wards of head coach Egay Macaraya.

Café France started off hot, zooming off 22-12 lead before a 13-0 blast between the second and third periods boosted their lead to 12, 49-37.

Mark Romero led Wangs with 18 points but the team fell to 1-4.
