Kazakh rider tops stage 2 of Le Tour
THE YOUNG dynamic duo of Vino 4-Ever’s Oleg Zemlyakov and Gidich Yevgeniy from Kazakhstan sealed the top places in stage 2 of the 7th Le Tour de Filipinas, which was a 204-kilometer race from Lucena City to Daet, Camarines Sur yesterday.
The 22-year-old Kazakh rider Zemlyakov crossed the line in five hours, eight minutes and 48 seconds for his first career stage win. Yevgeniy, on the other hand, finished second as he outraced 7-Eleven Road Bike Philippines’ Jessie Ewart and Terranganu’s Erdene Maral, who finished third and fourth, respectively.
7-Eleven Philippines’ Marcelo Felipe remains the top Filipino finisher, placing 6th, while Philippine National Team’s Rustom Lim came in 10th.
The 19-year-old Yevgeniy earned the white jersey as he was named second stage’s Best Young Rider. Zemlyakov was awarded the Best Sprinter and King of the Mountain out of 73 riders.
In the General Classification (GC), Zemlyakov leads the pack with 19 seconds ahead of Gidich and Ewart. Kazakh team Vino 4-Ever top seeds the Team Classification, 8:16 ahead of second placer 7-Eleven Road Bike Philippines.
Today’s third stage is a 185-km trek from Daet to Legazpi, Albay.
