A 48-year-old barangay tanod was killed after his gun accidentally went off when it fell where it was placed tucked in his waist.

Rolando Paradero of Barangay San Isidro, San Fernando town in southern Cebu was fatally hit in the chest with a bullet from his improvised 12 gauge shotgun.

Police said Paradero was fetching water in a well near his home when the accident happened.

On why Paradero had a gun, Chief Insp. Richard Gadingan, San Fernando police chief, said that barangay tanods are not allowed to carry weapons.
