CEBU City’s powerhouse taekwondo jins will once again vie for dominance in the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) Regional Meet which kicks off this Saturday in Cebu City.
University of Cebu (UC) Taekwondo coach Michael Realista is confident that his jins will bring pride to Team Cebu City in the annual athletic meet for private colleges and universities.
UC will field recent Cesafi (Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc.) gold medalists Carmela Coran, Aila Lepon, Riza Gemenez, John Dominic Sedullo and Jaymark Bangalisan. They will compete with other champions from different parts of Region 7.
There will be a solidarity meeting this coming Friday before the games start the following day, PRISAA 7 official Bernard Ricablanca told Cebu Daily News. He also revealed that there will be no grand opening ceremony.
Although PRISAA national leaders recently decided to include high school players to compete in the multi-sporting meet, Ricablanca said that they will still decide whether they would send their athletes to the PRISAA national finals since it will conflict with the Palarong Pambansa.
“We will still hold a meeting on Feb. 27 to decide if we will send our Cesafi secondary winners to the National Prisaa since it will conflict with the Palaro (Palarong Pambansa),” Ricablanca, who is also a member of the national Prisaa secretariat, said.
The Prisaa Nationals is set on Apr. 2-9 in Koronadal City, South Cotabato while the Palarong Pambansa opens on Apr. 10 in Legazpi City, Albay.
However, Cesafi HS football champions Don Bosco Technological Center expressed interest in sending their players to the Prisaa nationals despite the conflicting schedule, Ricablanca said.
