CEBUANO racquet-wielder Janji Soquino will look to strut his wares as he locks horns with some of the country’s finest netters in the Palawan Pawnshop – Palawan Express Pera Padala Iloilo City Open Tennis Championship (PPS-PEPP) tomorrow in La Paz, Iloilo.

A few names in the star-studded list include National team player Johnny Arcilla, two-time UAAP MVP Leander Lazaro, former Philippine number one Patrick John Tierro and reigning champion Chad Connor Cuizon.

“We take pride in putting up this top-level field and we thank Iloilo City for taking the initiative to host this big event which we hope will also help promote and develop the sport in the region,” said Palawan Pawnshop president and CEO Bobby Castro.

The event is in conjunction with Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and Vice Mayor Jose III Espinosa’s mandate to host national and international sports competitions as part of the city’s sports tourism program.

The event is presented by Palawan Pawnshop in partnership with the City of Iloilo and sanctioned by Philta headed by president and Paranaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez.

Winners in the tournament will pocket P40,000 while the runners up will receive P20,000 and the semifinalists will bag P10,000 each.  The doubles winners will get P20,000 with the second placers taking home P10,000.  /Correspondent John Carlo Villaruel
