Though it still needs additional filling materials, the privately-owned Anton’s Wharf beside the Cebu Yacht Club in Lapu-Lapu City is said to be ready for tomorrow’s dry run for docking fast craft from mainland Cebu to Mactan.
The fast craft will be used as alternate transportation for commuters between Cebu and Mactan while repairs on the old Mandaue-Mactan Bridge are ongoing.
The repairs had caused heavy traffic congestion for commuters and motorists in the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu. The dry run was initially scheduled last Friday but was moved to tomorrow because the floating platform at the wharf is still being fixed.
Cebu Daily News visited the wharf yesterday and saw that the wharf has a 100-meter temporary pier from the docking area to the gate.
Edmar Caberte, the backhoe operator of contractor Virlo Construction, said they had been working on the pier and docking area since February 23.

“The delivery of filling materials for the pier isn’t consistent. The sand and gravel has not been delivered for the past two days,” Caberte told Cebu Daily News.
He said the sand and gravel are used for the pier and platform.
Caberte said they get their supply from barangay Panoypoy, Consolacion town.
He said 20 truckloads of sand and gravel are still needed to fill up the rest of the temporary pier.
Laborers were tasked to remove the old dock pilings as the wharf is being asphalted and cleared of obstructions.
