THE wife of a Cebuano who was among the nine Filipino fishermen arrested in Eritrea in East Africa has sought government’s help.
Jugie Estriba, wife of Jumar, said she last heard from her husband on Feb. 19.
“Niingon siya nako nga managat nami. Amping mo diha (He told me that they will go fishing. Take care),” she said in an interview on Tuesday in Danao City.
The next day, on Feb. 20, Jugie said her uncle Juanito Alab, who is based in Saudi Arabia, informed her of her husband’s arrest.
She said she received a call from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) last Friday.
“Wala silay gisulti bahin sa iyang kahimtang. Wala koy tarong tulog gasige og huna-huna og naunsa na siya (They did not tell me anything about his condition. I haven’t been sleeping well, thinking about him),” she told the CEBU DAILY NEWS.
She made a follow-up on Monday, but did not get any response.
Senatorial candidate Susan Ople brought Jugie, a resident of Tuburan town in northwest Cebu, with her to the Nationalist People’s Coalition rally in Danao City yesterday.
During the rally, Ople said they will extend any help to Jugie.
Jumar is a native of Brgy. Pandacan, Pinamungajan in southwest Cebu.
He went overseas on Feb. 11, 2015 to work as a caregiver, but landed a job on a fishing vessel based in Jeddah instead.
The Estriba family lives in Barangay Pooc, Tuburan. The couple has two kids, aged 7 and 2.
