THE 11 police officers, who are facing an P11-million civil damage suit filed by suspended Cebu City prosecutor Mary Ann Castro, will file countercharges against the suspended prosecutor.
Lawyer Inocencio de la Cerna, counsel of the members of the Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG) of the Police Regional Office Central Visayas (PRO-7), said in a press briefing that they are consolidating all the previous cases filed by Castro with their necessary responses and a counter-claim.
“These police officers are doing their job religiously, and no amount of any action can deter them in the performance of their duty. If there were damages filed, we will file a countercharge which will be more than the damages she claimed against the police officers,” said De la Cerna.
De la Cerna was at the PRO-7 yesterday for a case conference with Supt. Rex Derilo, one of the police officers sued by Castro, and the new PRO-7 director, Chief Supt. Patrocinio Comendador.
He said as soon as they have a copy of the complaint, they will file their countercharges and they will also look into the reason she was hired as Talisay
City legal officer after the Department of Justice suspended her for grave misconduct.
“When you hit the Philippine National Police (PNP), it will also hit back, hit legally and hit hard,” De la Cerna said.
Castro filed a damage suit against the policemen after she was arrested last March 7 at the RSOG-7 office. Castro allegedly attacked the live-in partner of her estranged husband Leodegreco Sanchez, who was at the RSOG-7 office. Castro also allegedly harassed and bit one of the police officers who arrested her during that incident.
