THE Lapu-Lapu City government announced that it will extend financial assistance to the soon-to-be-relocated 81 households under the first Mandaue-Mactan bridge.

Pajo barangay captain Junard Chan, who was tasked  by Mayor Paz Radaza to negotiate with the informal settlers, said they have apprised  the Department of Public Works and Highways, and Jegma Construction and Development Corp. of their plan to  provide qualified assistance to residents who will be displaced by the ongoing repair of the Mactan bridge.

Chan said it is dangerous for them to remain in the area while the bridge is being repaired.

The area below the bridge will be converted into a senior citizens’ park, whose construction is set to begin soon.

Chan said Mayor Radaza will direct the city’s social welfare department to contribute assistance to the residents. Chan said the Lapu-Lapu city government is prepared to give a minimum amount of  P5,000.

Chan, however, said that the city could not yet assure of a relocation site as the property in Barangay Canjulao intended for urban poor housing has documentation problems.
