The awarding of 38 outstanding students of Mandaue will also be held today.

Dr. Susana Cabahug of Mandaue City College and the  wife of Justice Sotero Cabahug’s grandson said the event will be attended by Mayor Jonas Cortes, city councilors, Rep. Luigi Quisumbing, businessmen and students, among others.

There will be a Memorial Mass at the National Shrine of St. Joseph at 7:30 a.m., followed by a floral offering ceremony at the Cabahug Monument at 8:30 a.m.

An oratorical contest for high school students is the new highlight of the celebration that will be held at the Mandaue City Session Hall.

Cabahug said the contest has been added in order for the new generation to know more about the  Son of Mandaue.

At 6:30 p.m. will be the testimonial dinner at Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex together with the awarding ceremonies.

Ian Christian Cosido, a suma cum laude graduate of Cebu Normal University’s Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education Major in Social Science program will be the recipient of the Cabahug medal this year.

The Mandaue City Cultural, Historical, Educational, Sports and Tourism Foundation has been designated by the city council to select the Justice Sotero Cabahug awardee and also the sponsor for the ceremonies today.

The 18-karat gold medal worth P200,000 will be given by the Cabahug family to Cosido, a native of Mandaue City.

“We are trying to show a one-day celebration to the man who brought honor to Mandaue City,” Dr. Cabahug said during a press conference in Mandaue City Hall. /Xavier University Intern Rey Anthony Anacleto
