TWO people were killed when a delivery truck rammed into a car and a motorcycle at the South Road Properties (SRP) yesterday afternoon.
Kenneth Pacible, 22, and his girlfriend Jaimely Andam, 21, were declared dead on arrival at the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC), authorities said. Andam was a resident of Barangay Lahug and a crew member of a fastfood chain.
They were riding a motorcycle when a Pepsi delivery truck hit them and a sports utility vehicle (SUV), said Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) operations chief Jonathan “Joy” Tumulak.
SPO4 Henry Abalo, traffic investigator assigned to the CCTO, said the accident happened at around 3:50 p.m. The victims reached CCMC at around 4:30 p.m., or 40 minutes later.
The truck driver, identified as Venerando Ballares, 29, was detained at the CCTO.
In a phone interview, Ballares said he lost control of the brakes as he was exiting the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR) tunnel. He was with one truck boy and they were bound for Minglanilla.
