POLICE are still trying to identify the owner of the hand grenade and several packs of suspected shabu worth at least P1 million found inside a motorcycle’s compartment in Tuburan town in northern Cebu last Thursday.

The grenade and drugs were found inside a parked motorcycle in the town last Thursday.

Senior Insp. Reynaldo Solante, a bomb expert and an operative of the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) told Cebu Daily News that they are now verifying the “lot number” of the grenade to trace where and to whom it was issued.

“This kind of grenade is usually issued to AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines),” said Solante.

The Firearms Explosives Security Service Agency and Guards Supervisory Section (FESSAGS) has already been tapped to trace the owner of the grenade.

An identification card of radio station dyTX bearing the name of a barangay captain was also recovered.

“It is unlikely that someone would leave such amount of suspected illegal drugs and a live grenade with an identification card. It could be some sort of planted evidence. But we don’t want to preempt investigation, we will wait for the results,” said Solante.
