It’s official: Mendoza backs out

ALA Promotions International confirmed that former world champion, Javier “Cobra” Mendoza of Mexico, will not be able to fight Filipino Milan “El Metodico” Melindo in their scheduled rematch on May 28 in Bacolod City after suffering an injury during training.

Mendoza’s promoter, Zanfer Promotions of Mexico, informed the Cebu-based ALA Promotions International that their fighter strained his back muscle during training.

This development denied Melindo a chance of avenging his loss last year when they fought for the IBF world light flyweight title in Mexico.

Melindo will still be included in the Pinoy Pride 36 fight card as ALA promotions International will replace Mendoza with another opponent.
