Rey Gealon, executive director of the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) tendered his resignation Friday afternoon.

Gealon informed Cebu City Acting Mayor Margarita Osmeña in a letter addressed to her that his resignation was effective immediately.

“My heart swells with gratitude to Honorable Mayors Michael Rama and Tomas Osmeña,” he said in the letter.

“Mayor Mike, thank you for asserting that I can contribute leadership and morale in an atmosphere of mediocrity and fear of our 500 man strong department,” he added.

He also thanked incoming Mayor Tomas Osmeña and said, “Thank you for acknowledging the efforts of our hardworking men and women tested in Cebu City’s hosting Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit and the 51st International Eucharistic Congress (IEC), among many other international events.”

He also added, “Your reassuring pronouncement that they will retain their employment (from top to bottom) quelled their restlessness, secure in the thought that food will be served in their households.”

Gealon also said in the letter that the “Traffic ONE (Outstanding and Noble Enforcement) Project” could have spelled a difference in traffic operations and management, but believes there are other equally dedicated men with better programs for the city.”

Gealon worked at the CCTO for 10 months. When asked for the reason of his resignation, he answered, “It’s time to move on.”
