UST eyes Catmon v’belles

THREE more volleybelles from Catmon are expected to bring their talents to the nation’s capital in the hopes of being the next Gretchel Soltones and Isabel Molde.

The three are 13-year-old Maxim Czarina Estay, KC Cepada and Abegail Pono. All are being recruited by the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers high school volleyball team. Estay won the Most Outstanding Athlete (MOA) award in last year’s Milo National Finals in Laguna.

Both Molde and Soltones hail from Catmon and have made a name for themselves in the National level with the former winning the UAAP Season 78 Rookie of the Year (ROY) award and the latter bagging two consecutive NCAA Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards.

The trio would look to do the same as they begin their quest for greatness in the big leagues.

“I haven’t enrolled yet but I’ve been practicing with UST [already],” said Estay, who also received offers from National University (NU) and Hope Christian High School.

Other Cebuanas who are also eyed by UST are Regina Grace Jurado of Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu and Alyssa Bernadeth Emboy, who were noticed after their remarkable performances in the 2016 Palarong Pambansa.
