A 38-YEAR-OLD man died in a shootout with policemen past 2 p.m. yesterday in Sitio Kulo, Barangay Kalawisan, Lapu-Lapu City.

Danilo Pahimutang, a resident of the said place, sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was declared dead on arrival at the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital.

Earlier at 11 a.m., Pahimutang figured in a shooting incident wherein he shot his neighbor, a certain Junrey Amoin, 22, in the upper left arm. Amoin was brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for treatment.

Senior Insp. Jaime Tolentino, Chief of Lapu-Lapu Police Station 3, and his men conducted a follow-up operation and spotted the suspect near his residence. They asked Pahimutang to surrender, but suddenly he pulled out a gun and opened fire, prompting the policemen to retaliate. Pahimutang was hit in the head, causing his instantaneous death.
